Route Clearance

As mentioned in the above section for PLGR, several activities are undertaken to prepare the proposed cable route prior to cable laying and subsequent burial of the submerged plant. Route Clearance, when required, is part of the important route preparation phase.

The Route Clearance activity is the action of recovering and removing known OOS (Out of Service) cables. Over the history of the submarine cable industry.

PLGR Operations

The Pre-Lay Grapnel Run activity – or PLGR is whereby the proposed route is proven to be ‘free and clear’ of encumbrances for possible surface debris. It is achieved by deploying a grapnel train (set of selected grapnels & specialist equipment) suited for the seabed constitution, that is controlled lowered to the seabed on the centreline of the proposed cable route.
